Orange is a mid-sized city in central Orange County, home to the historic Old Towne Orange district with its 1886 traffic circle, Chapman University, and the massive St. Joseph Hospital and UC Irvine Medical Center campuses. The city is a mix of historic bungalow neighborhoods near the circle, newer master-planned communities, and one of the largest medical corridors in Orange County. Hospital transfers from the city's major medical centers make up a significant share of our Orange responses.
Orange has a diverse population — substantial Latino, Asian, and white communities, with a long-standing Vietnamese community particularly around the Westminster border. Spanish-speaking counselors are available in-house. The medical corridor along Chapman Avenue — anchored by St. Joseph, UC Irvine Medical, Children's Hospital of Orange County, and Chapman Global Medical — makes Orange one of our highest-volume cities.
Our team coordinates directly with the hospitals and medical centers serving Orange. Established relationships with case management, social work, and decedent affairs teams mean faster release when the time comes.
101 The City Drive South
The county's main academic medical center, a Level I trauma center and the only such facility in Orange County. We handle releases from UCI regularly and are familiar with their academic-hospital workflow, which can run slightly longer than community hospitals because of teaching protocols.
1100 W Stewart Drive
A Catholic hospital and one of OC's largest, with Level II trauma designation. We coordinate directly with their decedent affairs team and have an established workflow for Orange residents.
1201 W La Veta Avenue
A specialty pediatric hospital on the St. Joseph campus. We handle pediatric cases from CHOC with particular care and coordination with their support services.
2601 E Chapman Avenue
A smaller community hospital serving the east side of Orange. Full emergency services.
We regularly work with care facilities, skilled nursing homes, and assisted living communities across Orange. When a passing occurs, we coordinate directly with facility staff to expedite the process for your family.
The process depends on where the passing takes place. Here's what to do in each situation.
The hospital's care team will pronounce death and notify their decedent affairs team. From there, you'll need to designate a cremation provider — that's when you call us.
When death occurs at home and hospice is not involved, an authorized responder needs to pronounce death before we can bring your loved one into care. This is required by California law and is not something a funeral home or cremation provider can bypass.
For a full guide, see our article: What to Do When Someone Dies at Home (Without Hospice).
When hospice is involved, the process is significantly simpler:
Some deaths — particularly sudden or unexplained ones — are reviewed by the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner at 1071 W Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana. This doesn't mean anything is wrong; it's simply required in certain circumstances.
Our service area covers all of Orange. If you're calling from any of the neighborhoods below — or anywhere else in Orange — we come to you.
Working here regularly means we know the neighborhoods, the hospitals, the cemeteries, and how OC logistics intersect with Orange specifically. Here's what tends to come up on Orange calls.
Orange covers about 25 square miles with significant hillside areas in the east. From our office we're on scene in the central flats and medical corridor within 1.5 hours typical. The Panorama Heights and Orange Park Acres hillside neighborhoods can run 2 hours. UC Irvine Medical Center and St. Joseph releases typically clear within 60–90 minutes.
UCI Medical Center and St. Joseph Hospital dominate Orange hospital calls. Many Orange Kaiser members route to Kaiser Anaheim. Chapman Global Medical handles east-side community care. For specialty transfers, patients route among UCI, St. Joseph, and CHOC within the same corridor.
Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Orange is the primary Catholic cemetery for Orange families, with extensive cremation gardens, a mausoleum, and columbarium. Fairhaven Memorial Park is also in Orange, serving many families with cremation gardens and private family estates. Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar offers oceanfront options.
