Laguna Beach is an iconic coastal community in south Orange County, famous for its coves, its art scene, the Pageant of the Masters, and its position straddling the Pacific Coast Highway between Newport Beach and Dana Point. The city stretches from the ocean up into the Laguna Hills, with hillside neighborhoods, canyon enclaves, and the historic Downtown Laguna village. Most of our Laguna Beach responses are residence calls or transfers from Mission Hospital Laguna Beach — the city's own full-service hospital.
Laguna Beach has a predominantly white and affluent demographic, with a longstanding artist community and a significant LGBTQ+ population. Response from Laguna Beach is longer than from north OC cities — the 405, 73, and PCH are our routes in. Mission Hospital Laguna Beach is the city's primary emergency facility.
Our team coordinates directly with the hospitals and medical centers serving Laguna Beach. Established relationships with case management, social work, and decedent affairs teams mean faster release when the time comes.

The process depends on where the passing takes place. Here's what to do in each situation.
The hospital's care team will pronounce death and notify their decedent affairs team. From there, you'll need to designate a cremation provider — that's when you call us.
When death occurs at home and hospice is not involved, an authorized responder needs to pronounce death before we can bring your loved one into care. This is required by California law and is not something a funeral home or cremation provider can bypass.
For a full guide, see our article: What to Do When Someone Dies at Home (Without Hospice).
When hospice is involved, the process is significantly simpler:
Some deaths — particularly sudden or unexplained ones — are reviewed by the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner at 1071 W Santa Ana Blvd. in Santa Ana. This doesn't mean anything is wrong; it's simply required in certain circumstances.
Our service area covers all of Laguna Beach. If you're calling from any of the neighborhoods below — or anywhere else in Laguna Beach — we come to you.
Working here regularly means we know the neighborhoods, the hospitals, the cemeteries, and how OC logistics intersect with Laguna Beach specifically. Here's what tends to come up on Laguna Beach calls.
Laguna Beach covers about 10 square miles along the coast and hillsides. From the 405 and 73 we're on scene in downtown Laguna within 2 hours typical. The hillside neighborhoods and canyon enclaves can run 2.5-3 hours on narrow winding roads. PCH traffic can significantly affect summer response times. Mission Hospital Laguna Beach releases typically clear within 60-90 minutes.
Mission Hospital Laguna Beach handles most emergency care within the city. For higher acuity, patients transfer to Mission Hospital Mission Viejo (Level II trauma) or Hoag Newport Beach. Many Laguna Beach residents with Kaiser coverage route to Kaiser Irvine.
Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar (10 minutes north) is the most common choice for Laguna Beach families — oceanfront bluff setting with extensive cremation gardens. El Toro Memorial Park in Lake Forest is another common inland option. Ocean scattering is particularly popular in Laguna — we coordinate boat-based ash scattering through local partners.
